Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Acute services are looking for forward-thinking and dynamic individuals to join our established Consultant team. Supported by doctors in training and our skilled nursing team, we provide excellent care across acute areas including the Acute Medical Unit, Acute Assessment Unit, Same Day Emergency Care Unit, and Virtual Wards. We are recruiting highly motivated Consultants to join our expanding Acute Medical Team to deliver high-quality 7-day medical consultant cover, including out-of-hours work. The successful candidate will contribute to the continuous improvement of medical services within our Trust and be committed to delivering high standards of care.
Responsibilities
* Provide direct input into the care of patients referred to Acute Medicine from all sources including GPs and Emergency Departments.
* Emphasise maximal ambulatory management to reduce time spent by patients in acute beds.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary teams and lead the coordination of patient care.
* Teach, train and supervise medical students and postgraduate doctors in training.
* Assume continuous commitment for patient care and ensure adequate arrangements for leave and off-duty periods.
* Promote high professional standards of clinical care through direct patient care and continuing professional development.
* Develop close links with General Practitioners, primary care colleagues and community services in the region.
* Work on the Acute Medical Units (AMUs) across both Royal Preston hospital and Chorley hospital, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) at Royal Preston hospital.
About us
The department of Acute Medicine at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR) comprises a medical admissions unit at Royal Preston Hospital and one at Chorley & South Ribble Hospital. There is also SDEC and an Acute Frailty Unit. In summer 2024 there is a plan to open a new 42-bed AMU at the Preston site. Acute Medicine benefits from in-reach services from Nephrology, Neurology, Palliative Care, Cardiology, Respiratory, Acute Oncology and Elderly Care. The team includes consultants, trainee doctors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals. We are committed to providing high-quality care to patients admitted with acute medical conditions.

* Full GMC Registration
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCP
* CCT in Acute Medicine – Must be entered on the Specialist Register (or entry within 6 months)
Desirable
* Specialty Certificate Examination in Acute Medicine (MRCP Acute Medicine)
Experience
Essential
* Wide experience in Acute Medicine and General Medicine
* Experience in an Acute Medicine Unit/SDEC
* Experience in medical education
Desirable
* Trained Clinical & Educational Supervisor
