Role Responsibilities: We are seeking a reliable and motivated Lab Operations Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of our offices and laboratories in Bristol. This is a hands-on operations-focused role centred on maintaining an efficient, well-organised, and compliant working environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring both the laboratory and office spaces are clean, organised, well-stocked, and running smoothly. While the role follows established procedures and standards, it also requires a proactive and adaptable approach to support a fast-paced, evolving startup environment. While there is some exposure to laboratory activities, the role is primarily focused on operational support rather than conducting experiments. Success in this role comes from reliability, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to maintaining a well-run environment. This role is well suited to an individual looking to develop practical skills in office and laboratory support and operations, stock management and deliveries. Your responsibilities will include: Maintain a clean, safe, and organised laboratory and office environment in line with health and safety standards Safely handle and dispose of office and laboratory waste, including biological and chemical waste, in accordance with established procedures Monitor laboratory consumables and maintain stock levels via excel inventory tracking systems. Receive, unpack, and organise deliveries of lab and office supplies Support inventory tracking and ordering of reagents, consumables, and materials Ensure storage areas (including fridges, freezers, cupboards) are clean, organised and correctly labelled Monitor and track chemical inventory under COSHH regulations. Wash, sterilise, and prepare glassware and lab equipment Support lab set-up for experiments and routine workflows Maintain accurate records of stock usage and routine checks Assist with documentation and compliance tasks (SOPs, checklists, lab logs) Follow established processes while proactively identifying tasks that need attention or improvement Support the wider lab team with general operational tasks as needed Person Specification: You are a highly reliable and organised individual with a strong practical mindset and a commitment to maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-run working environment. Qualifications & Experience: We are open to varied backgrounds for this role but are looking for candidates who bring most of the following key, along with some desirable, skills and experiences: Key: Educated to A-level standard (or equivalent) Strong organisational skills and attention to detail Willingness to carry out practical support duties, including cleaning and stock management Ability to work reliably and independently on routine tasks Positive attitude toward teamwork and shared lab responsibilities Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment Good level of computer literacy, including experience using spreadsheets (e.g. Excel or Google Sheets) and general office tools (e.g. Google Drive, Docs) Excellent written and verbal communication Desirable: Previous experience in a laboratory, healthcare, manufacturing, or technical support environment Familiarity with laboratory health and safety practices (e.g. SOPs, COSHH) Experience with stock control, inventory systems, or ordering processes Experience using shared digital tools (e.g. Google Workspace) for tracking and documentation Full UK driving licence We recognise that not every candidate will meet every listed qualification.
