THIS POST IS SECONDMENT FOR 12 MONTHS DUE TO MATERNITY COVER

Are you looking to gain new experiences and skills working in an innovative team where patient-centred care and evidence-based practice is prioritised?

If so, Swansea Bay UHB have a part time (30 hour) post available on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave vacancies.

The first part of the maternity cover will be in the stroke service and the second part will be within the acute and head and neck services.

You will be joining a dynamic and supportive SLT service. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and services to optimize patient care including SLT led videofluoroscopy clinics, FEES, Pharyngeal Electrical Stimulation and SLT led SVR clinics

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a hard-working, ambitious and dynamic SLT. They will ideally have experience of working in the acute setting, with stroke patients and head and neck cancer patients, or have demonstrable transferrable skills.

The successful candidate will be forward thinking and pro-active with excellent organisational and prioritisation skills to work within fast paced clinical settings. They will be compassionate, flexible, dynamic and innovative with exceptional communication, time-management and team working skills.

The post holder will be an autonomous clinician; able to manage a specialist clinical caseload on a daily basis. They will be responsible for the delivery of assessment and treatments for their caseload; providing specialised therapy advice to members of the MDT.

They will deliver dysphagia and communication assessment and intervention at a specialist level with evidence-based, patient-centred care embedded in their clinical practice.

Person specification

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

1. Recognised SLT degree or equivalent
2. Registered member of RCSLT and HCPC
3. Completion of postgraduate specialist courses - Dysphagia

Desirable criteria

4. Relevant postgrad courses
5. CEN member

Experience

Essential criteria

6. Assessment and management of adults with communication and swallowing difficulties
7. Support and mentor less experienced SLT's, students and assistants
8. Use and interpretation of assessments relevant for specialist caseload
9. Experience and knowledge of use of AAC
10. Planning and delivery of clinical audit
11. Experience and implementation of a range of specialist treatment options for individuals and groups
12. Training or teaching of SLTS, other professionals, medical staff and assistants
13. Ability to plan, prioritise and manage specialist caseload without direct supervision

Desirable criteria

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

15. Specialist knowledge underpinned by current evidence-based practice
16. Accurate administration and analysis of assessments leading to differential diagnosis
17. Good verbal and written skills to share complex and sensitive information
18. Able to work unsupervised and independently as an active member of MDT negotiating case management
19. Demonstrates understanding of wider public service policies
20. Implementation of clinical governance/audits/research within relevant specialism
21. Ability to use Microsoft packages including virtual platforms, spreadsheets etc

22. Experience of conflict resolution
23. Ability to speak Welsh

24. Demonstrates understanding of own scope of practise and peson centred care
25. Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner to meet the business needs
