Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist The closing date is 04 June 2026
The Department of Gastroenterology in East Kent Hospitals is looking for enthusiastic new colleagues to join us on our journey into expansion and increasing subspecialisation. We currently provide a 7-day Consultant-led gastroenterology inpatient service on two acute hospital sites at Ashford and Margate, a site-based 24/7 GI Bleed rota for the two main acute sites as well as specialist Nutrition, IBD, Hepatology, HPB, UGI Cancer, complex polypectomy services, ERCP, Bowel Cancer Screening and capsule endoscopy. Endoscopy services are provided from the three main hospital sites in Canterbury, Margate and Ashford. We are looking for two newly created postholders to be based at William Harvey Hospital and be part of a team of 8 full‑time consultants (including these posts) to expand our department and the services we offer.
Main duties of the job
Support the site‑based GI Bleeding rota (1 in 8).
Provide two OPD clinics per week (face‑to‑face and telephone) and two general endoscopy lists, plus a session dedicated to a specialist interest and/or leadership role.
Allocate 1–2 SPA to support revalidation, service development and supervision of trainees.
Fulfil some elective clinical commitments on other sites within the Trust as required.
Co‑operate with the team of IBD, hepatology and UGI STT nurses.

Person specification Qualifications and training
Full GMC registration.
MRCP (UK) or equivalent post‑graduate gastroenterology qualification – MD, PhD, ESEGH or equivalent.
Skills and experience
Experienced in all aspects of gastroenterology.
Clinical governance
Evidence of experience in clinical governance.
Experience of audit.
