Sustainability Engineer
We are seeking an Environmental & Sustainability Lead to drive forward our organisation’s environmental and sustainability agenda. This role will be central to delivering compliance with environmental legislation, advancing carbon reduction goals, and embedding sustainability practices across the business.
You will chair the Environmental Committee, lead the company’s carbon reduction journey, and work with colleagues in the UK and internationally to support sustainability targets including Net Zero, ESG, CSRD, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on project delivery, ranging from waste management initiatives to energy reduction programmes.
This is a dynamic position suited to an individual who is proactive, commercially aware, and confident engaging with senior stakeholders, technical teams, and suppliers. It requires someone who is not only passionate about sustainability but also skilled at turning that passion into measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* • Monitor, interpret, and communicate environmental legislation changes affecting the business.
* • Ensure all legal environmental submissions (e.g. Waste Packaging) are completed accurately and on time.
* • Lead the Environmental Committee, ensuring actions and initiatives are delivered effectively.
* • Maintain the organisation’s Carbon Neutral status and continue to develop Scope 3 carbon reporting.
* • Oversee compliance with ESOS requirements or develop ISO 50001 certification.
* • Manage waste streams and contracts, championing the waste hierarchy and education on best practices.
* • Identify, lead, and deliver environmental improvement projects within the Integrated Management System framework.
* • Support audits and maintain alignment with ISO 14001 standards.
* • Work collaboratively with leadership, R&D, Production, Sales, and external partners to embed sustainable practices.
* • Drive initiatives such as energy reduction, sub-metering, and recycling across the organisation.
Qualifications & Experience
* • Environmental NEBOSH Certificate, or a degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related discipline (or equivalent qualification).
* • Proven experience implementing robust environmental compliance and reporting systems.
* • Internal Auditor training and experience (ISO systems desirable).
* • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in an environmental or sustainability role.
* • Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage at all levels.
* • Confident leading cross-functional projects and managing multiple priorities.
