Mid York's neonatal unit is seeking a band 5 nurse for a 6-month maternity leave cover.
We are a busy, high-volume unit, admitting around 450 babies annually. Our facility hosts 22 cots, including a Level Two Local Neonatal Unit with 3 intensive care cots, 5 high dependency cots, 15 special care cots, and a 5-cot transitional care unit. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, family-centred care to sick and pre-term infants, meeting the needs of our diverse population.

Main duties of the job
* Assess care needs, develop, implement, and evaluate care programmes for babies requiring intensive, high dependency, and special care, under the supervision of the Nurse in Charge.
* Perform all relevant forms of care competently and independently.
* Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and families regarding both complex and routine care needs, utilizing developed interpersonal and communication skills, and collaborating with the multi-professional team as appropriate.
* Maintain confidentiality at all times.
* Supervise and demonstrate duties to learners and new starters, acting as an assessor/preceptor.
* Maintain accurate records in accordance with Trust and NMC regulations.
* Demonstrate competency in the safe use of equipment, recognizing faults, and cleaning/dismantling equipment after use.
* Admit, transfer, and discharge neonates following trusted policies and procedures.
* Maintain competency in intravenous administration, adhering to policies on medicine management, safety, and infection control.
* Prepare and receive reports, demonstrating good communication and teamwork.
* Maintain and develop neonatal resuscitation skills.
