About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Benefits and Employment Support Worker to join our team. This role supports individuals, many of whom may be vulnerable, unemployed, or facing mental health challenges by helping them access financial entitlements and gain meaningful employment. You will work directly with clients to offer advice, advocacy, and practical support to navigate the benefits system and develop pathways into work or training.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide one-to-one support to clients with benefits applications, appeals, and understanding entitlements.
* Deliver employment-focused support, including CV writing, job search assistance, interview preparation, and confidence building.
* Liaise with Jobcentre Plus, employers, training providers, and other relevant agencies.
* Develop personalised action plans with clients to support progress into employment, volunteering, or further education.
* Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure they receive the benefits and support they are entitled to.
* Maintain accurate and confidential records of client contact, outcomes, and support provided.
* Monitor progress and report regularly on outcomes to line manager and funders.
* Attend team meetings, training sessions, and contribute to the development of the service.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Experience in benefits advice, employability support, or related support roles.
* Knowledge of the UK welfare benefits system and employment support services.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively.
* Good IT skills including Microsoft Office and case management systems.
* Empathy, patience, and a non-judgemental approach.
Desirable:
* Experience supporting clients with mental health issues or other complex needs.
* Qualifications in Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG), Welfare Rights, or Employability Support.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and data protection protocols.
