The Opportunity:
Research Technician – Early-Stage Formulation Science
Cambridge, Discovery Centre
12-month Temporary Contract
Avantor Services provides on-site laboratory support for major pharmaceutical customers. We are seeking a Research Technician to support early‑stage formulation science activities for our customer’s BioPharma Development team in Cambridge.
This is a hands‑on laboratory role, supporting early drug development programs through formulation studies and analytical testing of novel protein medicines, enabling R&D scientists to focus on core research.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver hands‑on laboratory support for early‑stage formulation development of novel protein drug products.
* Perform physico‑chemical and analytical testing (e.g. pH, A280, light scattering, particle analysis, chromatography, electrophoresis) in line with SOPs.
* Support formulation screening, robustness, developability, clinical in‑use and lyophilisation studies, including lab‑scale process activities.
* Accurately document and report data using approved systems (eLN), ensuring high standards of quality, traceability, and compliance.
* Work collaboratively while ensuring full compliance with SHE, Good Laboratory Standards, and quality requirements, managing workload to meet agreed timelines.
Essential Requirements
* BSc in Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Science, or related field
* Understanding of protein structure and/or protein formulation
* Experience in an analytical laboratory environment
* Strong attention to detail, accurate pipetting skills
* Good communication, organization, and time management skills
* Customer‑focused, collaborative, and able to work independently
* Competent IT skills
Desirable (Training Provided)
* Experience in chromatography, electrophoresis, or compendial testing
* Exposure to automation or liquid‑handling systems
* Knowledge of Good Laboratory Standards
