Up to £38,000 Base + Tronc (c. £5,000–£7,000)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sous Chef to join a well-established, high-volume destination restaurant in the heart of York — supporting the newly appointed Head Chef as part of a full kitchen reset.
Operating for over 18 years and seating 130 covers across two floors, this is a large, well-equipped kitchen with strong infrastructure and serious backing. The restaurant previously held recognition within both the Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide, and the ambition is now to return to that level.

The Role
This is a key position within the kitchen — acting as the right hand to the Head Chef, helping to rebuild the brigade, implement structure, and drive standards forward.
You will:
* Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen
* Lead services and maintain consistency across high-volume operations
* Help rebuild and develop a strong, stable brigade
* Drive standards in prep, organisation and execution
* Support ordering, stock control and GP management
* Assist in refining menus while maintaining the restaurant’s core identity
* Lead by example, setting the tone for professionalism and work ethic
This is a hands-on role suited to a chef who enjoys structure, leadership and making a visible impact.

Everything is made in-house — from breads and pastry to stocks and desserts — with a strong focus on quality, consistency and refinement.

* Current Sous Chef or strong Junior Sous ready to step up
* Experience within high-volume, fresh-food kitchens
* Confident leading service and supporting a brigade
* Organised, structured and calm under pressure
* Strong understanding of kitchen operations and consistency
* Ambitious and motivated to be part of a rebuilding project
