Financial Controller - Car Dealership
Location: Watford£50,000 - £60,000 per annum (depending on experience)Monday to Friday, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm (onsite)Reporting to: Chief Commercial Officer (CCO)Managing: Team of 4 Accounts AssistantsProgression: Clear route to Finance Director / CFO within 2-3 years

About the Company
We are a fast-growing, multi-site used car supermarket with an inventory of over 1,000 vehicles. We are looking for an experienced, commercially minded Financial Controller to lead the finance function at our Watford site. This is a pivotal role where you will support strategic growth, strengthen financial controls, and provide insights to drive performance.
For the right candidate, this role offers a clear pathway to Finance Director or CFO within 2-3 years.
Key Responsibilities
* Financial Strategy & Planning: Lead financial forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning to support business growth.
* Management Accounts: Produce and present accurate monthly management accounts with clear performance insights.
* Cash Flow & Working Capital: Manage cash flow, stock funding, and working capital to ensure financial stability.
* Financial Controls & Compliance: Maintain robust internal controls and ensure compliance with VAT, HMRC, and regulatory requirements.
* Audit & Tax: Oversee year-end accounts, audits, and tax filings; liaise with auditors and tax advisors.
* Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to streamline and enhance financial processes.
* Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of 4 Accounts Assistants to achieve high performance.
* Stakeholder Management: Partner with senior management, providing financial insights and strategic guidance.
About You
* Experience: Proven track record as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or Senior Accountant, ideally with 2+ years in the motor trade sector.
* Qualifications: ACCA, CIMA, or ACA qualified (or part-qualified with strong relevant experience).
* Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with Xero accounting software (essential) and advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with Dealer Management Systems (DMS) is a plus.
* Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate finance teams.
* Analytical Ability: Strong financial analysis and problem-solving skills.
* Accuracy: High attention to detail in financial reporting and compliance.
* Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication; confident engaging with senior leaders, auditors, and external partners.
