Financial Controller

Connected Search Group is partnering with a growing multi-entity SME to appoint a Financial Controller to join the Senior Leadership Team.
This is a broad and hands-on finance leadership role within an ambitious, scaling business. The organisation has expanded significantly in recent years and is now looking to strengthen its internal finance capability.
The Role
This position will take ownership of the finance function across multiple group entities, ensuring robust controls, accurate reporting and strong commercial insight.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading the month-end close process and ensuring reporting deadlines are met
• Producing monthly management accounts and consolidated group reporting
• Strengthening financial controls and balance sheet integrity
• Implementing improved processes, automation and reporting routines
• Supporting cashflow management and working capital oversight
• Managing and developing a junior finance team member
• Acting as a key finance partner to the Managing Director and wider leadership team
• Reducing reliance on external advisors by building capability in-house
This role requires someone who is proactive with the numbers produced. The business is not looking for an accountant who simply prepares reports. They want a finance leader who analyses performance, identifies areas for improvement and confidently challenges assumptions to support better decision making.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified accountants.
You may already be operating as a Financial Controller, or you could be a strong Finance Manager ready to step into a broader leadership role.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
• Strong hands-on month-end and reporting experience
• Experience improving finance processes and controls within an SME
• Exposure to multi-entity or group structures
• Experience managing or supervising at least one team member
• Commercial awareness and the confidence to influence senior stakeholders
• The ability to operate effectively in a growing, evolving business environment
Experience of leading or integrating a new finance system, or modernising legacy processes, would be highly desirable.
