Salary: £46,939 – £49,982 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting)
Hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday

At West London Waste Authority (WLWA), we're committed to reducing waste, lowering carbon, and building a more sustainable future across our six boroughs. We're now seeking a Sustainability Programme Manager to provide 12-month maternity cover in a key leadership role. This is a high-responsibility position focused on programme governance, stakeholder engagement, and strategic sustainability planning.

About the Role
Reporting to the Governance Manager, you will take the lead on coordinating WLWA's sustainability and circular economy workstreams. A core aspect of the role is to manage and improve programme governance, ensuring consistent use of documentation and templates across the organisation, while supporting project delivery, reporting, and partnership collaboration.
You will play a critical role in supporting WLWA's internal project managers and enabling the successful functioning of programme boards, working groups, and wider strategic networks.
What You'll Be Doing
* Lead the implementation of consistent programme and project governance practices.
* Manage and maintain project documentation templates, reporting frameworks, and meeting schedules.
* Support internal colleagues with programme planning, progress monitoring, and stakeholder reporting.
* Provide secretariat and logistical support for cross-borough meetings and working groups.
* Prepare reports and presentations for senior management and London-wide climate networks.
* Monitor KPIs, programme risks, and alignment with WLWA's business plan and sustainability strategy.
* Work closely with local authority partners, contractors, and regional groups to progress net zero and waste reduction goals.
Who This Role is For
This role suits a confident and organised programme or project management professional with a strong interest in sustainability, public service, or environmental strategy. You'll be skilled in coordinating complex programmes with multiple stakeholders and capable of creating structure in a fast-moving policy and delivery environment.
Relevant backgrounds might include:
* Programme coordination in local government, environment, or sustainability fields
* Strategic planning or governance work related to climate change, circular economy, or public policy
* Supporting or leading working groups, partnerships, or programme boards
* Managing or supporting grant-funded or multi-stakeholder sustainability projects
Essential Skills and Experience
* Demonstrable experience managing or supporting complex projects or programmes
* Excellent organisational skills, with attention to detail in documentation and process
* Clear and concise written communication, particularly in formal reports and governance settings
* Strong understanding of sustainability, net zero, or circular economy concepts
* Familiarity with stakeholder management, meeting coordination, and programme tracking
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
* Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant subject (e.g. environmental management, sustainability, project delivery)
Desirable
* A project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, Agile, APM)
* Experience working in or with the public sector
* Knowledge of London-wide sustainability frameworks or social value tools
* Experience applying for grant funding or supporting bid development
* Understanding of policy and regulatory frameworks affecting waste and recycling
