Job Role: Design Manager – Water Non-Infrastructure
Location: Peterborough – Hybrid (days required can be discussed)
Rate: £500 - £550 / day
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience
About the Role:
Join the award-winning @one Alliance, a progressive and collaborative delivery partnership in the water sector. As a Design Manager, you’ll lead the development and delivery of innovative, value-driven design solutions for non-infrastructure water projects such as treatment works, pumping stations, and groundwater abstraction schemes.
You’ll oversee a multi-disciplinary design team, working closely with internal technical specialists and external suppliers to produce integrated, sustainable designs that support project affordability, reduce carbon, and enhance natural capital.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading the development and management of Engineering Project Plans (scope, schedule, cost, risk, and resources)
* Managing the performance and development of a high-performing design team
* Ensuring quality assurance and right-first-time design principles across all outputs
* Coordinating internal discipline leads and external suppliers to deliver integrated solutions
* Collaborating with project functions (e.g. planning, procurement, construction) to drive efficient delivery
* Supporting programme milestones and driving design affordability and sustainability
* Fulfilling CDM responsibilities, including design risk assessments and H&S documentation
* Promoting innovation, digital design tools, and continuous improvement
About you:
* Degree-qualified in Engineering or related field ()
* Chartered or working towards chartered status
* Strong experience managing design delivery and multi-disciplinary teams
* Confident in supplier coordination, design integration, and project risk management
* Experience in a Design & Build environment (beneficial but not essential)
* Committed to innovation, sustainability, and collaborative delivery
* Effective leader with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
