Due to significant growth, a superb opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced Legal Cashier to join our clients dynamic finance team based in their Taunton office.
About the Role:
You will play a vital role in supporting the Accounting Manager with all aspects of daily cashier duties relating to both client and office accounts. This position is key to ensuring full compliance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting the integrity of the firm’s accounting practices.
Key responsibilities include:
* Processing client transactions and following up on overdue payments
* Managing incoming and outgoing payments through various financial mechanisms, including bank transfers
* Conducting bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy between bank accounts and financial records
* Invoicing clients and pursuing outstanding balances
* Checking bookkeeping entries for accuracy
* Maintaining both office and client ledgers
* Reporting any suspected account breaches or unauthorised activities via appropriate channels
* Monitoring finance operations to ensure regulatory compliance
* Running daily and monthly financial reports and assisting with month-end and year-end processes
* Submitting VAT returns on a quarterly and annual basis via the government portal
* Liaising with fee earners and internal staff on financial matters
* Communicating with external parties such as auditors, clients, suppliers, banking providers, and regulatory bodies
* Supporting general administrative tasks as required
About you:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in both the legal and financial sectors, and must have previous experience working as a Legal Cashier within a law firm. This is a hands-on role requiring initiative, accuracy, and excellent communication skills.
Essential skills and experience:
* Previous experience as a Legal Cashier in a law firm
* Strong understanding of the SRA Accounts Rules
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial data entry
* Familiarity with legal accounting software
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to work collaboratively within a team
* Strong organisational skills and professionalism in handling confidential information
