Role: Libraries and Learning Resources Assistant

Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable Kingsway Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £23,557 and £25,849 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave (Pro-Rata) plus Bank holidays, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 38 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time

About The Role

We are currently seeking a Libraries and Learning Resources Assistant to join our Libraries and Learning Resources department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Libraries and Learning Resources Assistant, you play an important role in the success of our students through:


* Learner Support - Provide first-line support to students and staff in using library resources, developing research and study skills, and promoting learner independence through positive engagement.
* Teaching & Skills Development - Deliver inductions and training sessions on study skills, online research, and use of digital tools including Microsoft Office, accessibility software, and the College VLE.
* Resource & Environment Management - Maintain a tidy, welcoming, and well-organised library space, ensuring appropriate student behaviour and supporting displays and promotional activities.
* Library Operations - Use the Library Management System for issuing and returning items, managing fines, and maintaining borrower records; handle sales and financial transactions in line with college procedures.
* Collaboration & Administration - Liaise with curriculum staff to align resources with course needs, support volunteers and work experience learners, and take on specific administrative tasks under team direction.

About You

* Education & IT Skills - Holds GCSEs (Grade A–C) or equivalent in English and Maths, with excellent IT skills including Windows applications, internet research, and a willingness to learn new technologies.
* Experience & Communication - Experienced in delivering user education and providing clear, concise support to learners and staff, with strong customer care and communication abilities.
* Learner Support & Behaviour - Skilled in managing learner behaviour and promoting positive engagement, with a creative and enthusiastic approach to supporting teaching and learning.
* Teamwork & Independence - A flexible, reliable team player who is also self-motivated and capable of working independently, managing time and priorities effectively under pressure.
* Commitment & Flexibility - Demonstrates alignment with Bedford College Group’s values, with a strong commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding, and flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends.
