Join East Coast College's Board as a volunteer governor who is passionate about education and creating lasting impact in the community we serve. This role supports the College in delivering its strategic objectives and enhancing educational outcomes.

As a Governor, you will gain valuable governance and leadership experience while collaborating with dedicated individuals who share a passion for education and the region. The Board is refreshing its strategy and has several exciting projects in development, including the redevelopment of our Great Yarmouth campus. We are proud to be rated Ofsted Good across all areas with good financial health.
Key responsibilities
* Strategic Oversight: Develop the college’s strategy and goals.
* Accountability: Hold the team accountable for educational performance and quality.
* Financial Stewardship: Ensure effective control over funds and assets, maintain solvency, and meet legal obligations.
* Advocacy: Act as an advocate for the college within the wider community.
* Participation: Engage in activities such as learning walks, celebrations, strategic planning, and self-assessment.
* Commitment to Values: Promote equality, diversity, and quality standards.
What are we looking for?
We welcome individuals with diverse skills and knowledge. Areas of interest include education, SEND, safeguarding, finance (including qualified accountants), audit, estate development, strategic/business planning, people/HR, chairing, and related governance experience.
What will you be doing?
About Us: East Coast College operates campuses in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth, offering a range of subjects and professional training for school leavers and adults up to degree level. Governors support, challenge, and help the College achieve its strategic objectives. Board experience is not required—your skills, experience, and enthusiasm for our goals and values are what matter most.
Time Commitment: Meetings are usually a couple of hours on Tuesday mornings. We have 5 Full Board meetings, 4 Committee meetings, and 1 Full Away Day each year, with a minimum attendance target of 80%.
Roles: We offer a Governor role and, if you can’t commit to a full governor role, an Associate Governor role on one of our committees (People, Finance, Quality) with about 4 meetings a year. We are particularly looking for experience in safeguarding, learner voice, and finance (qualified accountant).
