Job Summary
Liverpool Clinical Laboratories is the largest provider of pathology services in the Northwest. The work is clinically led and cutting edge, acting as a regional reference centre for specialist investigations. As part of LCL you will be encouraged to share your skills to help drive the organisation to success. The post holder will work within the Department of Haematology and Transfusion based at the Royal site of Liverpool Clinical Laboratories. The department operates 24 hours, with modern automation and processes more than 470,000 samples per annum. The position will be on Agenda for Change terms and conditions, with a shift pattern covering Monday to Friday and some weekend hours.
Main duties
The post holder will support the day-to-day activities of the Haematology and Transfusion Laboratories under the direction of qualified staff, as part of the pathology team. You will process clinical specimens for biological testing and perform associated supporting functions. You will also perform maintenance on instruments, run internal QC as per section policy, and bring outliers to the attention of Biomedical Scientists. You may undertake relevant unsupervised housekeeping laboratory duties in a timely and efficient manner as directed by departmental policy. You should be able to work on your own initiative and demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
* The accurate entry and retrieval of confidential patient information using the laboratory computer system, in accordance with Caldicott guidelines.
* The primary receipt and preparation of potentially hazardous patient specimens.

Qualifications
* Essential: Minimum of 2 GCSEs or equivalent in science subjects.
Experience
* Essential: Demonstrable NHS laboratory/office experience.
Skills
* Essential: Good time management.
* Essential: Excellent communication skills.
* Essential: Numerate.
* Essential: IT and keyboard skills.
Desirable: Awareness of Health and Safety.
