Buoy Electrical Technician Permanent Harwich £30,505.00 - 34,317.00 per annum 37 hours per week Trinity House works for the benefit and safety of all mariners as a General Lighthouse Authority and maritime charity. Trinity House maintains and operates around 450 buoys. We are looking for a proactive, highly motivated and experienced individual to join our Buoy yard team. This role will involve working closely with the Buoy yard supervisor to build and maintain complex buoy designs, solar power systems, telemetry systems and associated equipment. You will also be responsible for carrying out similar electrical testing, inspecting and maintenance on plant and equipment across the depot and as requested the further estate. A certain amount of organising and planning will be required to fulfil this role as will the ability to write technical reports. The role will also require occasional visits on land or sea to remote locations around the coast to carry out repairs and maintenance to buoys, beacons and lighthouses. What You'll Do -Health and Safety. Maintain a safe working environment, ensuring all tasks are carried out to a high standard in accordance with Health and Safety guidance and Trinity House policies. -Buoy Operations. To be responsible for all electrical repairs and associated tests to current Trinity House engineering standards, including external standards such as the latest IEE regulations. -Collaborate with the Buoy Yard Supervisor. To build, commission and repair different types of buoyage equipment in line with current procedures. -Plant Operation. Operate and maintain various items of plant from forklift trucks and Mobile Elevated Work Platforms to Overhead and Wheeled Cranes. -Report keeping. Keep up to date reports on work carried out, logging various details related to your daily tasks. Be proactive. Provide a high priority response to buoy equipment failures and provide expertise to identify and rectify faults. -Travel around the U.K. You will have the opportunity to travel to various areas around the U.K. working both at other depots as well as on Lighthouses and beacons that are located all around the coast. This will require the occasional period working away from home. -Gain Extensive training and Qualifications. You will undertake a vast array of training to build your knowledge and skills on all aspects of the role ranging from plant and machinery operation and maintenance, general Buoy Yard tasks as well as record keeping. We would love to hear from you if you have the following qualifications, skills and experience. Skills and experience - A Thorough working knowledge of health and safety in the workplace. - An awareness of the dangers associated with working in an industrial environment. - A strong working knowledge and practical experience of working within an electrical/electronic control maintenance role. - Experience of fault finding from drawings and able to undertake repairs of equipment to board and component level. - Experience of conducting electrical functional testing using electrical test equipment. - Awareness of telemetry monitoring and control equipment. - Experience of working with low voltage AC/DC. - The ability to manage your time and workload efficiently. Qualifications Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline or appropriate experience Desirable to have undertaken a recognised apprenticeship scheme in an electrical/electronic discipline or relevant experience 18th edition wiring regulations (desirable) Click here to view the role profile.
