Functional Skills Tutor - Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre Campsfield IRC is due to open soon as the UK's first all-electric Immigration Removal Centre. We are looking for respectful, diligent and caring colleagues to join our team. Job objectives and responsibilities To actively promote and design educational activities and, vocational courses including online learning and assessment processes. These initiatives are intended to meet the needs of residents and adhere to contractual requirements. This tutor will conduct workshops focused on their skillset and experience, ensuring they address the needs of the residents and fulfil necessary contractual obligations. To provide a safe, secure, stimulating, supportive and productive environment for residents that encourages them to attend and that enables them to learn and develop Main duties Actively promote educational courses throughout the Centre including Maths and English. Explain the available opportunities and the relevance of these skills as part of the Preparation for Release programme to ensure that residents are well-informed and that there is optimal uptake. Assess the ESOL and skills level of learners who come into the classroom ensuring that they have sufficient language skills to enrol in the courses offered, making adaptations wherever possible to overcome barriers to learning. Develop and deliver core modular courses and, as appropriate, advanced teaching modules and the learning programme, supporting and encouraging all learners to enable them to achieve their learning objectives with relevant and interesting teaching. Deliver the OCN Vocational Skills programme maintaining standards of delivery and quality assurance. Provide a short induction to residents, welcoming them to the classroom to encourage their participation and ensure that the activities provided are relevant and interesting Work proactively with staff and residents to provide artistic support for cultural events within the Centre Develop, promote and deliver a range of workshops enabling residents to gain useful transferable skills Develop, promote and deliver a range of activities, competitions, events and projects supporting and encouraging all learners to enable them to achieve their learning objectives Create and maintain a safe, secure, positive and friendly learning environment where residents feel welcomed and respected. Monitor attendance, retention and achievement figures and assist in the development of strategies and procedures and make improvements to maximise these. Ensure the completion of all documentation and administration in line with company policies and any external agency requirements so that accurate, compliant data is maintained and provided. Use all resources effectively to ensure quality of service and value for money. Manage the learning environment always ensuring maintenance and security of tools and equipment to relevant standards. Advise on equipment and purchases necessary to meet contractual requirements and best practice within education. Support Regimes & Activities more widely, covering other areas as required, to ensure continuity of service. Person Specification Essential An appropriate teaching qualification and experience is required. In-depth knowledge of vocational skills in their area of specialism Previous teaching experience within a related subject is required Desirable Experience of delivering relevant skills workshops/training Experience within the custodial setting Experience of working with ESOL learners would be advantageous and a patient and understanding attitude to the language problems faced by learners essential. Care Custody Competencies Resident Care and Management Interacts with residents easily, quickly building rapport but maintaining professional distance Is impartial, fair, assertive, consistent and confident with residents Treats residents with respect as individuals and encourages residents to do the same to others Listens carefully to residents, including picking up on unspoken communication Explains issues clearly to residents and keeps them informed at all times of relevant issues Makes time to understand residents and regularly helps them, working hard to meet their needs Shows empathy and compassion Diffuses anger and worries in residents Acts upon signs of distress, self-harm or anger Encourages residents to express their concerns, take responsibility for their behaviour and participate in activities and programmes Is observant You must be eligible for CTC clearance. You must hold a valid British passport or an EU passport with a share code. Additionally, you must have lived and worked in the UK for at least 3 years, without any extended trips overseas.
