About the Role (Home Based or Hybrid): A leading, fully integrated energy infrastructure business is on a mission to drive the UK's transition to net zero. They are looking for an Energy Trading Risk & Compliance Manager.
The company portfolio includes smart meters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and EV charge points, providing complete energy solutions supported by engineering excellence, funding capability, and advanced technology and data expertise. With over 300MW operational and a further 200MW under construction, this business is a key player in UK energy trading, operating a sophisticated in-house trading function.
The Energy Trading Risk & Compliance Manager will support trading operations, manage risk, and ensure compliance across a dynamic and growing energy portfolio. Reporting to the Trading Director, this role involves operational oversight, strategic input, and developing governance frameworks to support growth.
This is a client-facing, hands-on role suited to an individual with deep industry knowledge, a commercial mindset, and strong leadership skills. The manager will also develop internal controls and support business innovation and expansion into new markets.
Responsibilities:
1. Risk Management: Implement and enhance operational risk management frameworks. Oversee internal trading controls, reporting, and monitoring systems. Ensure robust operational processes are in place.
2. Compliance: Develop and maintain governance frameworks and internal policies. Ensure compliance with external regulations and internal standards. Support project setup and oversee personnel competency processes.
3. Operational Management: Manage processes with Elexon, trading exchanges (EPEX Spot, N2EX), and OTC trading parties. Lead regulatory reporting, change management, and performance analysis. Liaise with NESO and coordinate industry reporting activities. Support new project development and market entry initiatives.
Qualifications:
* A high-calibre graduate with a proven academic record.
* Industry experience and in-depth knowledge of energy trading, regulation, and risk management.
* Hands-on experience with governance frameworks and trading operations.
* Strong understanding of Capacity Market, Elexon, Grid/NESO, EPEX/N2EX, EFET/GTMA, REMIT, EMR, Settlements, and Credit (advantageous).
* Background in commercial shift operations and leading cross-functional projects.
* Skilled in data interpretation to drive decision-making and optimize trading performance.
