We’re looking for a Trainee Benefits Officer to join our supportive Revenues & Benefits Service, where you’ll learn how to assess Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction and other welfare‑related support.
You don’t need to be an expert — just someone who is organised, motivated and keen to develop specialist skills. We’ll provide structured training, ongoing guidance and opportunities to grow your confidence as you take on your own caseload.
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you’ll learn to:
* You may have experience in customer service, administration, finance or welfare support — or you may be looking for your first step into this field. What matters most is that you bring:
* Assess and process Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction claims.
* Review changes in circumstances and update claims accurately.
* Provide clear, helpful advice to residents, landlords and partner agencies.
* Verify information, interpret evidence and identify discrepancies.
* Manage and prioritise your workload to meet service standards.
* Contribute to a high‑quality, customer‑focused benefits service.

* Strong attention to detail and confidence handling information.
* Clear communication skills and a calm, empathetic approach.
* Willingness to learn complex rules and apply them accurately.
* Good IT skills and a proactive, organised mindset.
