Process Chemistry - Nuclear Graduates 2026
Overview: The Nuclear Graduates programme is a two-year scheme with three secondments across leading nuclear organisations. Sponsored for the 2026 cohort are Rolls-Royce, the Office for Nuclear Regulation, the Atomic Weapons Establishment, the Ministry of Defence - Defence Nuclear Enterprise, Great British Energy - Nuclear, and the Environment Agency.
As a Process Chemistry Nuclear Graduate, you will develop and apply an understanding of the practical integration of chemical processes into an industrial environment, including scale-up considerations and the interactions of the process with the working environment and facilities.
You Can Expect To Gain Experience In
* Identification of Key Process Variables and derivation of appropriate operating envelopes
* Application of optioneering techniques to identify potential new chemical processes, assess their advantages and limitations to justify selections
* Understanding chemical reaction pathways, byproducts and impurities to understand and manage their impacts
* Develop an understanding of analytical methods and their capabilities
Programme Deliverables
* Develop the technical skills to drive the implementation and operation of safe and efficient chemical processes
* Assist in assessments of the impact of processes on facilities, including corrosion and interactions with sensors, seals and related materials
* Develop knowledge and skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, risk assessment, hazard identification and selection of Best Available Techniques
Qualifications
Chemistry graduates are expected to have a minimum of a 2:2 at Bachelor’s level in one of the following degrees:
* Chemistry
* Chemical Engineering
* Other degrees with a strong scientific focus may be considered (e.g., Natural Sciences)
Graduates who are well-suited to our programme typically demonstrate a keen focus on safety, with an open-minded and inquisitive attitude, diligence, attention to detail, and a high standard of technical rigour.
Entry Requirements
* A minimum of a 2:2 in a relevant degree subject
* Right to work in the UK by the start of employment
* Successful completion of security clearance checks
* Willingness and ability to travel and relocate. Energus head office is based in Workington, Cumbria; role locations will vary by sponsor location
Start date: September 2026
Recruitment Stages
* Online application form – complete all required sections
* Psychometric assessment (Neurosight)
* Online interview (20-30 minutes via video)
* Assessment centre (face to face)
* Offer – outcomes issued within two weeks; security paperwork ahead of start
* Onboarding – join via social groups and welcome sessions
Face-to-face assessment centres will take place in early 2026. If unable to attend an assessment centre, you may be unable to complete the selection process. Check emails regularly for correspondence.
