We are pleased to be expanding our Countywide Benefits Team. Working within the wider Adult Social Care and Health Department and forming part of the Maximising Independence Service, the team are responsible for maximising the income of our Nottinghamshire residents. Our role is to promote financial resilience and personal independence by maximising income, helping them to live as independently as possible.
As part of this specialist advice team, you will support people to understand their entitlement to benefits, provide prompt and detailed information and guidance, complete better off calculations, advise on appeal processes and deliver training to staff and partner organisations.
The team works directly with Adult Social Care and Health staff and supports our Adult Care Financial Assessment Teams. Preferred candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of financial assessments within Adult Social Care, have knowledge of how a person’s needs are assessed and understand how these relate to income maximisation.
The role will involve providing detailed benefits advice over the phone, which is specialist in nature and often determined by changes in social care requirements and urgent matters of complex need. Attendance at events and talks when required, to deliver targeted information and promote financial resilience and financial enablement. Involvement in designing and delivering specialist training to internal and external staff and contributing to developing networks and maintaining strong links with our partners to ensure collaborative approaches across Nottinghamshire.
We are looking for an excellent team player to join our small, yet strong team of specialist advisors.
You must have a proven track record of at least 2 years delivering specialist benefits advice. Up to date knowledge of the benefits system is essential, with ability to keep abreast of proposed changes and developments. Strong mathematical skills are required to ensure accuracy when completing calculations and attentiveness to detail is vital to ensure relevant information is captured and recorded accurately.
You will have excellent communication skills across a variety of channels, good IT skills and the ability to use multiple recourses to interpret information and legislation.
To form part of the Benefits Team you will need to be organised and pro-active. You will take responsibility for planning your diary and work-load to meet service demands. You will be committed to excellent service and be thorough in your work whilst meeting deadlines.
Nottinghamshire County Council values its employees and is committed to their growth and well-being. We are on a journey to enhance the cultural priorities of Adult Social Care, shaping a positive and inclusive environment. In return for your commitment, you will join a professional and supportive culture, receiving regular supervision, both formally and informally and be supported to attend training to maintain your continued professional development.
This role calls for some hybrid working, therefore you will be expected to attend offices countywide and work at home as required. You will need a full driving license and access to a vehicle.
