We’re recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for somebody with experience in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects as needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incidents.
Team
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate.
Technical experts lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction, guidance, training and environmental best practice.
Experience / Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role, including control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
Competence Assessment
* Competence 1: Legislative Knowledge – Apply knowledge of statutory environmental and technical requirements to protect the Environment Agency and the environment. Provide advice on regulatory requirements for combustion plants of varying sizes and purposes.
* Competence 2: Works in Teams – Collaborate with senior advisors covering a wide portfolio of work, ensuring priorities and responsibilities are aligned.
* Competence 3: Builds and Sustains Relationships – Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government officials, trade associations, and operational teams.
Additional Information
