Job Summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Physiologist/Scientist to join our team based in the Department of GI Physiology, Pelvic Floor Services and Research at The Churchill Hospital in Oxford.

It is essential that the person is enthusiastic, motivated and passionate about providing high quality, safe, patient centred care. Good communication skills are essential as is the ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team. The clinical team consists of Specialist Nurses, an Assistant Practitioner and Clinical Scientist, all of which are supported by administrative staff, to provide a high quality and seamless service to patients.

Main duties of the job

The service delivers a range of upper and lower procedures including upper and lower high resolution manometry, ambulatory pH/impedance studies, anorectal physiology, endoanal ultrasound scanning, rectal irrigation, pelvic floor retraining, temporary and permanent sacral nerve stimulation.

Your primary role will be to deliver a range of upper and lower GI physiological investigations. You will also help to co-ordinate and support further development of the GI Physiology service.

Ideally you have proven experience in this field, are eligible to become an Independent Healthcare Practitioner with the Association of GI Physiologists, and will be eligible for state registration with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) or the Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC).

The post holder will be required to work flexible hours which may include evenings and some Saturdays in the future

General Education & Qualifications

BSc (Hons) life science or biological degree (eg clinical physiology)

Desirable

Level 5 - Leadership qualification
Teaching qualification

Professional Qualification

Essential

BSc (Hons) Clinical physiology (modality of Gastroenterology) OR BSc (Hons) in a life science with the University certificate in Clinical GI Physiology (UCCPD) Part 1 and Part 2 Association of GI Physiologists (AGIP) Professional exams in Clinical Gastro- Intestinal Physiology OR Scientist Training Programme (STP) three year training programme in GI Physiology that includes work-base and academic learning

Registration

Essential

Registered or working towards registration with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) or the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Member or working towards membership of the Association of GI Physiologists (AGIP) of the British Society of Gastroenterology as an independent practitioner in GI Physiology

Experience

Essential

Competent in performing high resolution oesophageal manometry and ambulatory 24-hr oesophageal Impedance/pH monitoring in adults
Competent in performing anorectal physiology and endoanal ultrasound scanning in adults
Experience in temporary and permanent sacral nerve stimulation processes and procedures
Knowledge of importance of calibration of measurement equipment
Evidence of professional updating within last twelve months
Knowledge of routine and specialist investigative and analytical methods in GI Physiology

Desirable

24-hr oesophageal Impedance/pH monitoring in pediatrics
Previous R&D experience relevant to the field of GI Physiology
