DOWLS Site Engineer – Highways
We’re on the lookout for a Site Engineer to take on a DOWLS (Defects & Outstanding Works) role, closing out remaining works on major road projects. You’ll be hands-on with setting out, quality checks, and supporting the site team to make sure everything is delivered to the highest standard.
💼 Role: DOWLS Site Engineer
📍 Location: UK (site-based)
📅 Type: Full-time, Contract
What you’ll be doing:
Carrying out setting out with GPS & Total Station (Leica & Trimble preferred)
Completing and raising quality check sheets, keeping accurate records
Producing As-Builts and working with CAD software
Supporting quality documentation and ITP compliance
Maintaining a clear daily diary of site activities
Coordinating with foremen, gangers, and section engineers
Following the 3-week lookahead programme to keep works on track
Supporting site safety and ensuring H&S standards are met
Raising Permit to Dig (EUSR L1 & L2 ideal, training available if not held)
What we’re looking for:
Previous highways experience (major roadworks, deep drainage, kerbs,
fencing & earthworks)
Strong setting out skills with GPS & Total Station
Confident using CAD for As-Builts
Good understanding of quality documentation & compliance
Proactive communicator with site teams and engineers
Full UK driving licence
