The Role
Newcastle Law School seeks to appoint a Lecturer T&S (Fixed Term) to join our forward‑thinking, inclusive Russell Group Law School. The position is a 12‑month fixed‑term post (September 1 2026 to August 28 2027) funded by a Leverhulme Research Fellowship. The role primarily covers teaching and administrative responsibilities, but the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues to develop their own research/scholarship.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to teaching on Law & Ethics (essential); deliver the Animal Rights Law module or support other LLB teaching.
* Develop high‑quality teaching materials, resources and activities.
* Set, mark and assess coursework and examinations; provide timely feedback in line with University policy, using online and digitised curricula.
* Supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate students as required.
* Act as an academic adviser, mentoring and supporting students throughout their studies.
* Participate actively in the Newcastle Law School community.
* Commit to diversity, equity and inclusion, fostering a positive research and education culture.
* Handle a range of administrative tasks supporting teaching, research and engagement.
* Complete additional administrative duties as required by the Head of School.
The Person (Essential)
Knowledge, skills and experience
* Demonstrable teaching and marking experience on an undergraduate LLB programme.
* Strong subject knowledge of law and ethics/legal theory and capacity to teach this (essential).
* Ability to deliver or contribute to the Animal Rights Law module and/or other LLB teaching.
* Evidence of providing a high‑quality educational experience that engages, challenges and inspires students.
* Ability to supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate students’ research projects.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Qualifications
* A good LLB Honours degree.
* PhD or equivalent at or near completion (strictly within three months of submission at time of application) in a relevant subject.
* HE teaching qualification or equivalent experience (desirable).
