Behaviour Support / THRIVE Practitioner
Hatch Warren Junior is a three form entry school which serves the Hatch Warren area of Basingstoke. We are looking to appoint a Behaviour Support Worker to join our supportive and hardworking team.
We are looking for someone who can address the needs of the children who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential. We need someone to work Monday-Friday 9am-3.30pm including half an hour for lunch and term time only.
Grade D 1 - 3 depending on experience
The successful candidates' role would be to;
* Provide pastoral support to pupils both individual or small groups
* Receive and supervise pupils excluded from, or otherwise not working to, a normal timetable
* Assist the teacher with the development and implementation of individual behaviour plans including behaviour passports and challenging behaviour risk assessments
* Develop 1:1 mentoring arrangements with pupils and provide support for distressed / deregulated pupils
* Provide information and advice to enable pupils to make their own choices about their behaviour
* Provide feedback to pupils and adults in relation to behaviour.
* In conjunction with senior staff, liaise with feeder schools and other relevant bodies to gather and transfer pupil information
* Support pupils' access to learning using appropriate strategies, resources etc
* Monitor and evaluate pupils' responses and progress against behaviour plans through observation and planned recording
* Be responsible for providing and updating records as agreed with other staff, contributing to reviews of system, records as requested
* Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate behaviour management strategies
* Establish constructive relationships with parents/ carers, exchanging information, facilitating their support for their child's attendance, access and learning and supporting home to school and community links.
* Determine the need for, prepare and use specialist equipment, plans and resources to support pupils in liaison with the Home School Link Worker and the Class Teacher.
* Be aware and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
* Participate in training and other learning activities as required.
* Assist in the supervision, training and development of staff alongside the Home School Link Worker.
We are looking for someone who has:
* Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes and in particular barriers to learning.
* Experience working with children of relevant age
* Very good literacy / Numeracy skills
* NVQ3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification of experience
Ideally the successful candidate would also have;
* Thrive Training
* Specific behaviour training and can share positive impact of interventions
Both of these would be an advantage but not essential as training can be given.
To enable the candidate to be successful in the role they would need to be able to:
* Plan effective behaviour action plans for pupils at risk of under achieving
* An ability to motivate and encourage children appropriately
* An ability to work independently and with initiative
* An ability to establish and maintain good relationships and rapport with other colleagues in the school and external contacts
* Possess specialist qualifications / skills to deal with the needs of particularly challenging pupils
