2 month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose:
To carry out a wide range of carpentry and locksmith repairs to communal areas, including external doors and entry systems, across residential and public buildings within the borough. This role ensures communal spaces remain secure, functional, and safe for residents and visitors.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
* Carry out carpentry works on external doors, frames, gates, panelling, and communal fixtures in residential blocks and public buildings.
* Install, repair, and maintain a variety of locking systems, including mortice locks, euro cylinders, night latches, padlocks, and door closers.
* Attend emergency and routine repair requests related to door access and communal security.
* Fit and align fire-rated doors and carry out minor joinery repairs as required.
* Diagnose issues accurately and carry out effective repairs in a timely manner.
* Ensure tools, materials, and equipment are used and maintained appropriately and safely.
* Complete job records and documentation (e.g. repair logs, work completion forms) using handheld devices or paperwork as required.
* Liaise professionally with tenants, caretakers, and colleagues to ensure minimal disruption and high customer satisfaction.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, risk assessments, and safeguarding procedures at all times.
* Participate in out-of-hours/emergency call-out rota as required (if applicable).
* Report any concerns around property safety, safeguarding, or antisocial behaviour encountered during work.
Requirements
* Proven experience as a qualified carpenter, ideally within social housing, public sector, or commercial settings.
* Skilled in a wide range of locksmith tasks, including replacement, repair, and fitting of various lock types and door mechanisms.
* Ability to assess and complete repairs independently to a high standard.
* Strong awareness of health & safety best practices, particularly in communal and residential environments.
* Full UK driving licence (a vehicle may be provided).
* Good communication skills and customer service approach.
