Your Role
Service Line: Secure & PICU/ Acute Services
Post: Specialist (Band 6) Occupational Therapist
Salary: Up to £40,787 per year
Base: Low Secure Female Ward (Tiffany Ward) or PICU Wards (Chamberlain/Pattison)
Contract Type: FTC for 12 months
Responsible to: Head of OT and Regional Lead OT
Hours: hours per week, Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 5:00pm
Cygnet Stevenage operates as a medium secure unit and runs PICU/Acute service lines within this framework. Our site has a wide range of therapeutic resources where service users can develop their daily living skills in a bespoke environment.
This includes a Recovery College, ADL kitchen, a large gym, therapeutic garden, football pitch, music production studio, and many other therapeutic spaces. Service users are encouraged to extend their community skills with easy transport links from the hospital, and a thriving local town centre.
Main duties of the job
Within this role, you will lead the occupational therapy department and provide assessment and treatment of occupational needs on Secure and PICU/ Acute services, under the supervision of a senior OT.
You will also have the support of an Occupational Therapy Assistant and/ Activity Coordinator, who will provide therapeutic interventions and meaningful activity engagement for each patient.
At Cygnet, we have a strong occupational focus through support and direction from Clinical Leads and our Occupational Therapy Directors. We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, of which Occupational Therapists play a key role.
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will work as an autonomous clinician, providing specialist assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction. You will hold supervisory responsibility for others, and take a leadership role in specific projects. An integral part of this role will be supporting student education within the team.
This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

In this role you will assess, implement and develop an OT treatment programme according to service users diagnosis and identified needs. This will be based upon findings from assessments including associated risks, in order to develop treatment plans accordingly.
You will be an integral member of the Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and OT department whilst working autonomously with the support of an OTA. The MDT wrap around the service to support the individuals in our care throughout their journey with us to capture and manage risk and relapse in community.
The ward team consists of nurses, psychologists, psychology assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, social workers and psychiatrists as well as 24/7 support from the nursing team and support workers. This means that we are able to meet the changing needs of our service users as they progress through their care pathway, while ensuring their safety is maintained and their independence supported.

Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.
Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.
We ensure our occupational therapists have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.
