Working Style: This position will be based in County Hall, Chelmsford, where most of the instrument stock is stored. Administration days can be worked from home.
The Opportunity
Essex County Council (ECC) operates one of the largest Music Hubs in the UK through a grant from the Arts Council and has recently undergone significant transformational change to broaden and improve its music offer to young people in Essex. Offering opportunities for young people to perform together and progress musically is a core role of Music Hubs.
The Instrument Hire Scheme Co-ordinator will be responsible for managing the music service's instrument hire scheme, which is subsidised by an Arts Council grant. The role involves liaising with parents and schools to organise instrument hires and delivering instruments across the county.
Responsibilities
1. Ensure the instrument hire scheme operates effectively and efficiently.
2. Manage the online administration system for applications, stock control, and database management.
3. Provide excellent customer service to parents and carers.
4. Maintain and organise instrument repairs to ensure quality and safety.
5. Utilise knowledge of musical instruments for proper care, including organising external repairs.
6. Promote continuous improvement and commercial awareness within the team.
7. Work collaboratively within project or process teams.
8. Contribute to policy, fee, and procedure updates for the hire service.
9. Monitor data on instrument hire interest and cost-effectiveness.
10. Collaborate with other music officers to promote the service.
11. Meet annual performance targets and objectives.
Minimum Requirements
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent experience.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and database management.
* Knowledge of musical instruments and their upkeep.
* Understanding of music education and the needs of young people, schools, and parents.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Highly organised, methodical, and efficient.
* Experience working in an office environment with a focus on customer service.
* Proactive problem-solving skills.
