Job overview We are seeking a motivated and compassionate nurse or allied health professional to join our Dementia Team and play a key role in improving the experience of people living with dementia across the Trust. The post holder will work closely with patients, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to promote high‑quality, person‑centred dementia care within the hospital. In this role, you will support individuals with a dementia diagnosis during their hospital stay, contribute to care planning, and act as an advocate for dementia‑friendly practice. You will collaborate with Band 7 Dementia Nurses to develop and deliver engaging training based on the latest evidence and best practice, ensuring all RUH staff have the knowledge and confidence to support people living with dementia. The post also includes supervising a Band 3 Dementia Support Worker, providing professional guidance, and helping to shape their development. You will play an active part in supporting our network of Dementia Champions across the organisation, empowering clinical areas to improve the environment and culture for people with dementia. Advert The successful candidate will have a current NMC or AHP registration. A minimum of three years’ post‑registration experience in an acute care setting and at least 1 year experience in dementia care. In this role, the post holder will provide specialist dementia knowledge and guidance to staff across the Royal United Hospital, acting as an advocate for people living with dementia, their families, and carers throughout their hospital journey. They will work closely with the Band 7 Dementia Nurses to develop, deliver, and evaluate a range of dementia training, ensuring education reflects best practice and current evidence. The role includes supporting the RUH Dementia Champions network, contributing to regular Champion meetings, and promoting a positive learning culture through both formal teaching and targeted ward‑based support. The post holder will collaborate with the wider Vulnerable People services—including Learning Disabilities, Safeguarding, and Enhanced Care—and will contribute to the Dementia Strategy, Dementia Charter Marks, and learning from the National Audit of Dementia. Maintaining professional standards, strong communication links, and up‑to‑date clinical knowledge, they will manage their workload independently to ensure a high‑quality and responsive service is delivered across the Trust. Detailed job description and main responsibilities JOB SUMMARY: The post holder will: · Have a passion to improve Dementia care throughout the Trust. · Work as part of the Dementia team to support people in hospital with a diagnosis of dementia alongside families and carers. · Work collaboratively with the MDT to provide a person-centred approach to care · Develop training with the Band 7 Dementia Nurses, making sure all training takes in to account the most recent research and good practice · Deliver Dementia training to all RUH staff using a variety of settings and methods. · Supervision and guidance for Band 3 support worker · Support Dementia champions. MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: · Provide specialist knowledge for hospital staff in Dementia care · Act as an advocate for families, carers and people living with dementia admitted to the Royal United Hospital · Support the development of Dementia training, facilitate, deliver and evaluate a range of education and training programmes for all members of RUH staff. · Support the RUH Dementia Champions and actively take part in 6 monthly Dementia Champion meetings. · Plan, develop, facilitate, deliver and evaluate learning activities with the support of the Band 7 Dementia Nurses to ensure that all staff are supported to deliver excellent Dementia care regardless of job role. · Promote a learning environment that optimises and supports the development and education of staff. · Assist and support in identifying and defining areas of improvement and develop targeted teaching and learning activities for individual wards and areas. This may include working alongside staff to role model good practice. · Work closely with the other Dementia Nurses and Dementia Support worker to ensure that the Trust delivers exceptional Dementia care to all patients. · Work in collaboration with the wider Vulnerable people teams such as LD, Enhanced care, Safeguarding · Participate and learn from the National Audit of Dementia, tailoring training and support to acknowledge this. · Support the delivery of the Dementia Strategy Group vision and values and relate this to the Royal United Hospital’s values. · Maintain excellent communication networks and relationships within and externally to the Trust. · Work with minimum supervision and coordinate own activities to ensure that an efficient service is provided. · Effectively use resources to access and provide the most appropriate training and development. · Maintain a professional appearance in line with the Trust’s professional appearance policy. · Uphold the Trust’s values and behaviours and behave in a manner fitting with the responsible position of the post holder, maintaining public confidence. · Ensure that confidentiality is always maintained in line with national/ RUH Trust and Local policies · Ensures that own practice demonstrates current clinical knowledge, credibility and best practice. Acts as a role model and be recognised as an expert by colleagues. · Support the assessment of ward Dementia Charter marks.
