Job summary
An exciting leadership and management opportunity has opened up in our Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Service. We require the expertise and talent of a senior nurse who has the knowledge and ability to lead our service through this period of rapid growth. The service offers specialist care for common and rare haematological disorders and supports one of the UK's largest bone marrow transplant programmes for non-malignancies and a nurse-led Apheresis service. You will work alongside the Matron for Haematology and Oncology as a 12 month fixed-term job share with the opportunity for a substantive post.
Your key working days will be Mon, Tues and Thurs at hours with some flexibility.
The successful candidate will have the operational and management responsibility of the Paediatric Haematology; PBMT and the POSCU Level 2 service; and to oversee the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care focussed on improving outcomes and the experiences for patients, families and other service users in the areas listed below:
- 13 bedded Grand Union Ward
- 6 beds and 3 chairs Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Day Unit
- Haematology, Oncology and Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Nurse Specialist Team
Main duties of the job
To provide the operational management responsibility for the following areas and to oversee the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care focussed on improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families and carers:
- Grand Union Ward- Led by Band 7 Ward Manager/CNS
- Paediatric Haematology Day Unit- Led by Band 7 Ward Manager/CNS
- Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team

Education & Qualifications
Essential
1. Registered Nurse/RN Child/RSCN
2. Post registration qualification in specialty
3. Educated to postgraduate diploma/degree level or equivalent experience
4. Management certificate or equivalent experience.
Desirable
5. Leadership or Management qualification (or working towards this qualification)
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
6. Minimum of 2 years at Senior Charge Nurse/Sister Band 7 level within specialty
7. Sound knowledge and understanding of current issues in specialty
8. Experience and knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
Desirable
9. Evidence of Research/ Publicatio ns
10. Evidence in Quality Improvement/Project Management
