 
        Shape the Future of Data in National Security. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Data Leader / Head of Data to define and deliver a compelling data vision and long-term strategy within a secure UK government department. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping how data is governed, assured, and exploited to enable innovation, strengthen decision-making, and enhance national capability. As Head of Data, you will lead the development and implementation of a future-focused data strategy that aligns with organisational goals and wider government priorities. Working closely with senior leaders and technical specialists, you'll ensure data assets are governed effectively, leveraged responsibly, and used to deliver real impact across science, technology, and security domains. Key Responsibilities: Define and deliver the department's data vision, strategy, and governance framework. Lead the design and assurance of agile, secure, and future-ready data systems. Oversee data assurance and compliance with statutory, regulatory, and contractual requirements. Establish and embed robust data governance, policies, and capability-building initiatives. Build strong partnerships across government, academia, and industry to drive best practice and innovation. Represent the organisation at senior levels across government on all data-related matters. About You: You are a senior data leader with a proven track record in defining and executing data strategies within complex or secure environments. You bring strategic vision, strong governance expertise, and exceptional influencing skills to deliver transformational change. Essential Requirements: Senior leadership experience in data strategy, governance, or assurance. Strong stakeholder management and influencing capability at senior levels. Proven ability to communicate and deliver a clear, actionable data vision. Experience building inclusive, innovative, and collaborative cultures. Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems). DAMA accreditation (associate level or above), or ability to achieve within six months. Desirable: Experience delivering complex data programmes under uncertainty. Evidence of cross-sector collaboration and thought leadership in data, AI, or analytics. Experience influencing at the highest levels of government or regulated organisations.
