Overview
We are looking for a Solution Architect to drive forward the Defence sector within Electrical and Embedded Systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence client projects and deliver value across maritime system projects (including sonar and combat management systems).
Responsibilities
* Creating, managing, promoting and delivering Architectures for Thales Maritime projects.
* Developing and managing Requirements Specifications for the System and Subsystems levels.
* Understanding the development lifecycle and lifecycle products.
* Interfacing with the client to define standards and architectural frameworks.
* Impact analysis and variation management.
* Compliance and customer requirement resolution.
* Defining and authorising Design Descriptions and Verification objectives.
* Providing technical advice to the Engineering Group Manager on technical matters and management issues related to the Systems Engineering Group.
* Providing technical direction and leadership to the Systems Engineering community.
* Interacting with key stakeholders and understanding customer needs to advise customers.
* Establishing and maintaining a structured Systems Engineering process and activity.
* Providing technical specifications and guidance to Project Systems Engineers.
* Representing the Systems Engineering Group on the Change Control Committee and reviewing/approving change proposals.
* Staying abreast of technical developments within and outside the company.
* Assisting the Engineering Group Manager to strengthen engineering capabilities.
Qualifications
* Member of a professional body
* Engineering Degree or equivalent
Essential Skills
* Proficiency with a range of IT tools; ability to define system engineering tools usage, including modelling and requirements management.
* Knowledge of configuration control processes.
* Ability to manage a complex project through a defined design process and tailor CHORUS2 to project needs.
* Ability to define and use metrics as part of Quality Assurance and control to evolve a System Engineering process.
* Working knowledge of project plans.
* Knowledge of Engineering Safety Management in the context of architectural design.
* Solid understanding of naval system architectures.
Experience
* The Solution Architect is the technical focal point for the solution design and framework; must resolve issues across the system. A proven record of working with combat systems is required.
* Experience collaborating with cross-industry/customer teams; desirable to be multinational.
* Sound knowledge of combat systems deployed in the UK maritime fleet with detailed knowledge of at least one combat system equipment.
* Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate at all levels in spoken and written word. Self-motivation and ability to work under pressure are vital.
* Evidence of effective teamwork and collaboration within the Systems Engineering job family.

* Some travel to client sites may be required; flexibility to travel and work at other locations is desirable.
