Senior Network Engineer – Permanent | Glasgow (Hybrid)
We're looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join a large, dynamic digital team based in Glasgow. This is a hybrid role splitting your time between home and the office - 2 days in the office.
The Role
You'll act as a senior technical authority across enterprise and hybrid network services - combining hands-on engineering with responsibility for standards, governance, risk management, and continuous improvement. You'll design, deliver and assure secure, resilient network infrastructure, and mentor the wider engineering team.
What You'll Be Doing
Network & Security Architecture
1. Design and assure complex enterprise network and security architectures using Fortinet technologies (FortiGate, FortiSwitch, FortiManager, FortiAuthenticator, FortiNAC, FortiSASE)
2. Embed Zero Trust and SASE principles into all network solutions
3. Define and maintain standards, reference architectures and configuration baselines
Network Operations
4. Ensure availability, performance, resilience and security of enterprise network services
5. Act as escalation point for complex incidents, leading root cause analysis and permanent remediation
6. Drive continual improvement across network operations
Hybrid & Cloud Connectivity
7. Design and support hybrid connectivity between on-premises data centres and Microsoft Azure (Virtual Networks, ExpressRoute, VPN)
8. Collaborate with cloud and platform teams to integrate consistent security controls
Enterprise Networking
9. Design, support and optimise enterprise LAN, WAN, campus and data centre networks using Cisco and Fortinet technologies
10. Lead technical evaluation and introduction of new networking capabilities
Governance & Assurance
11. Ensure compliance with security policies, regulatory requirements and audit expectations
12. Contribute to risk assessments, TDA reviews and formal change governance
13. Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams and asset records
Essential Skills
14. Fortinet platforms: FortiGate, FortiSwitch, FortiManager, FortiAuthenticator, FortiNAC, FortiSASE
15. Microsoft Azure networking including ExpressRoute, site-to-site and remote access VPN
16. Cisco switching and routing; LAN, WAN and data centre networking
17. Strong operational disciplines: incident, problem, change and capacity management
Nice to Have
18. Automation experience (Terraform, Ansible)
19. Formal governance and risk management framework experience
20. Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
