Overview: We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Hazardous Materials and Safety professional to lead critical initiatives for our large, Defence sector customer. Location: Hybrid working with regular attendance at Abbey Wood, Bristol. Mandatory office presence on Wednesdays and additional days as required. Rate: Up to £1000/day (Inside IR35, via an umbrella company) Contract Duration: ASAP – 01/01/2026 (4 days per week) Application Deadline: 16/06/2025, 17:00 Key Responsibilities: Lead the development and implementation of the MOD Hazardous Materials Tool (CAT D), managing stakeholders and conducting cost-benefit analyses. Manage updates to DefCon 68 & DefCon 624, reflecting evolving chemical policies and requirements. Address DE&S asbestos compliance tasks, reporting, and training activities. Provide expert leadership on radiation safety and hazardous materials management. Review and advise on technical content for REACH Defence exemptions. Oversee audit and assurance activities related to dangerous goods. Direct a specialist technical team across noise and vibration, hazardous materials, and associated training. Essential Qualifications and Experience: Strong background managing hazardous materials, radiation safety, and project management within regulated technical environments. Proven experience leading specialist teams. Degree-level education (BSc/MSc) in Engineering, Safety, or related scientific disciplines. Active SC Clearance. Desirable Qualifications: Nuclear/radiation-specific qualifications and experience. MSc/PhD in relevant fields. Additional Information: Firm daily rate includes travel to/from Abbey Wood.
