Job Title: Lecturer in Childcare & Education (Maternity Cover)

Reporting to: Associate Director, Health & Care
Salary: £23,652 – £34,849 per annum (0.8 FTE, subject to progression criteria)
Contractual Hours: 29.6 hours per week
Basis: Part time (0.8 FTE), Fixed Term up to 12 months (Maternity Cover)
Pension: Teachers’ Pension Scheme
Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus, TS2 1AD
*Salary progression beyond Point 11 of the Lecturer scale is subject to achieving and maintaining QTLS/QTS. Progression beyond Point 14 requires achievement and maintenance of Advanced Teacher Status (ATS).
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Lecturer in Childcare & Education to join our Health & Care department on a maternity cover basis. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment within the Childcare and Early Years curriculum. You will deliver engaging, inclusive teaching across both practical and theoretical aspects of Childcare & Education, supporting learners to achieve their full potential and progress successfully into employment, apprenticeships or further study. You will also play a key role in supporting learner recruitment, retention, achievement and progression.

Key Responsibilities
* Teach learners across Childcare & Education programmes, delivering high‑quality, inclusive learning experiences.
* Plan and deliver programmes of study that meet individual learner needs, interests and abilities.
* Create a positive, safe and engaging learning environment appropriate to learners’ age and stage of development.
* Use a range of teaching strategies and resources aligned with best practice and sector requirements.
* Plan and deliver assessment activities in line with Middlesbrough College standards and awarding body requirements.
* Use diagnostic assessment to identify learner strengths and development needs, implementing timely interventions.
* Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records relating to learner attendance, progress and achievement.
* Participate in internal and external quality assurance processes, including awarding body visits and inspections.
* Support learners beyond the classroom, including reasonable availability to learners and parents when required.
* Contribute to curriculum team meetings, curriculum development and recruitment activities such as open events and enrolment.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
You will have:
* A Level 3 qualification in Childcare and Early Years (essential).
* A relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
* Qualified teacher status or a willingness to work towards a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE supported).
* GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
You will also demonstrate:
* Recent and relevant experience teaching Childcare and Early Years.
* Awareness of current challenges and developments within the Childcare & Early Years sector.
* Strong organisational, time‑management and communication skills.
* Confidence in managing learner behaviour positively and effectively.
* The ability to create engaging teaching materials using Information Learning Technology (ILT), including VLEs and PowerPoint.
