A family in S8 are currently searching for part-time, PA support for their teenage son the during weekend. The young man has a complex learning disability and his family are looking for an individual who can provide him with 1:1 support, keeping him safe when doing the things he enjoys. IBK are supporting the family to find someone who has the experience of working with young people with communication difficulties and complex needs using their initiative during his sometimes challenging behaviours.
The role of the PA would involve:
* Constant support throughout the day or night
* Support with daily medications and attending regular hospital appointments
* Assistance with washing, dressing, feeding and moving around
* Using a variety of equipment such as his wheelchair and hoists
* Support eating and drinking
* Keeping him safe and calm
* Willing to adapt to routines
Being predominantly non-verbal and a wheelchair user he would love nothing more to have the opportunity to make new friends and have the support to build his confidence to live his best life. Having lots of energy, the young man loves to get out and about in busy environments, whether this is at a shop or café, especially if this involves going for food. While at home he loves music and a good dance.
The role would involve both emotional and personal care alongside manual handling so the individual would need the physical capabilities and have a genuine desire to positively enhance the young person's life.
Joining his team of PA's, the family are looking for someone who:
* Is calm, patient and have an open mind approach
* Be physically capable of carrying out tasks described.
* Observant and attentive with the young man's challenging behaviours
* Have experience of working with young people who've had complex needs and communication difficulties using PECs
* Be friendly, reliable, and honest; and maintain confidentiality.
* Be respectful in the family home
* Have a genuine desire to positively enhance the young person's life
The role will involve personal care and manual handling, which training will be provided.
