Job summary
PAWS has been formed from the merger of Pathology Services at Salford Royal Hospital and Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh Hospitals.
The post is based at Wigan, but you may be required to work at other sites.
Medical Laboratory Assistants in Specimen Reception are required to provide support to Blood Sciences and other departments in Pathology. The duties include entering patient data into the laboratory IT system, assisting with specimen handling, supporting some analytical processes, and performing clerical work.
Note that you will be required to work late shifts, weekends, and nights on a rota basis.
Different shift patterns are being recruited to.
Available posts are 22.5 hours per week, worked over 3 set days covering early, day, and late shifts, or an average of 22.5 hours per week over a 4-week rota, including 1730-2200 weekdays, 1400-2200 weekends, and night shifts.
Main duties
The primary duty is entering patient data into the Pathology IT system. Additional tasks include maintaining laboratory equipment, managing archive systems, and general housekeeping. The role requires lifting heavy objects like boxes and waste, and pushing trolleys.
Candidate requirements
We seek someone who is conscientious, capable of careful and accurate work, with excellent customer care and communication skills. Good data entry skills, basic numeracy, and literacy are essential. Previous laboratory experience is advantageous but not necessary.
