Overview

As Ward Sister/Charge Nurse you will play a pivotal leadership role at the heart of patient care. Working closely with Matrons and the Operational Service Manager, you will drive innovation and develop processes that truly enhance the patient experience. This is a role where your expertise, vision, and passion for high standards will make a lasting impact. In this exciting and challenging role, you will:

* Lead with clinical expertise - use your advanced knowledge and judgement to inspire and guide the ward team in delivering consistently high-quality, safe, and compassionate care.
* Champion excellence - monitor standards, identify opportunities for improvement, and showcase outcomes to the Directorate to ensure care remains at the highest level.
* Ensure seamless care - oversee continuity of treatment, ensuring every patient receives smooth, joined-up care tailored to their needs.
* Drive continuous improvement - assess and evaluate patient outcomes, adapting care plans to achieve the best results.
* Build strong partnerships - work across boundaries with system partners, fostering collaboration with other professionals, organisations, and networks to shape better services and improve health outcomes.
* Manage resources effectively - take ownership of people, budgets, materials, and information, ensuring resources are used wisely to deliver the best possible patient experience.

As a Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be expected to work at a high level of professional practice, demonstrating strong leadership, expert clinical knowledge, and the ability to influence and drive standards across your ward. Your responsibilities will include:

* Standards of Own Clinical Practice - Act as a clinical role model, consistently delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based care.
* Use advanced clinical judgement to make decisions in complex situations, ensuring patients receive the highest standards of care.
* Maintain professional registration and demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development.
* Ward Leadership and Management - Provide clear direction and strong leadership to the ward team, fostering a culture of accountability, compassion, and excellence.
* Organise daily ward activities, ensuring smooth running of services and continuity of care.
* Act as the first point of contact for staff support, conflict resolution, and escalation of issues. Support the development of staff by identifying training needs and facilitating learning opportunities.
* Mentor, coach, and supervise junior staff and students, helping them to build skills and confidence.
* Promote a culture of learning, encouraging staff to share knowledge and best practice.
* Quality Improvement and Change Management - Lead initiatives to improve patient experience and outcomes, embedding quality improvement projects into ward practice.
* Use audit and feedback to identify areas for development, and implement change effectively.
* Encourage innovation and support staff to adapt to evolving healthcare challenges.
* Risk Management - Ensure potential risks to patients, staff, and services are identified, reported, and managed appropriately.
* Promote a culture of safety and openness, encouraging incident reporting and shared learning.
* Actively contribute to investigations and implement lessons learned to prevent reoccurrence.
* Information Governance - Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care and clinical records.
* Safeguard confidentiality in line with professional and legal requirements.
* Promote the appropriate use of information to support safe decision-making and high-quality care.
* HR Processes - Take responsibility for staff performance management, including appraisals, sickness management, and disciplinary processes where required.
* Support recruitment, induction, and retention of staff, ensuring the ward has a skilled and motivated workforce.
* Promote staff wellbeing and encourage a positive team culture.
* Health and Safety - Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and Trust policies.
* Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, carrying out risk assessments as necessary.
* Lead by example in infection prevention and control, ensuring adherence to best practice at all times.

We are looking for a highly motivated experienced nurse with a minimum of 3 years experience at senior level / Band 6, to manage & lead our friendly team on Juniper Ward. Strong leadership, excellent communication skills & the ability to make effective clinical decisions are essential. The successful candidate should be passionate about motivating & inspiring others to develop excellent standards of nursing care to enhance the patient experience.

* Registered nurse (part 1, 8, 12 or 15 of register depending on area of practice)
* Postgraduate level study (HEI level 7) or demonstrable post graduate level
* First level degree (HEI level 5 or 6) in nursing, midwifery or equivalent
* Teaching / Assessment Mentoring qualification, Knowledge of the key professional issues and NMC guidelines relating to professional practice
* Demonstrates understanding of relevant national strategy / policy and how this relates to the service, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
