Together with a multi-disciplined team, the Engineering Chargehand is responsible for carrying out first line maintenance tasks and improvements on equipment throughout the factory efficiently and effectively to enable maintenance targets to be met. The role is also responsible for providing feedback on completed tasks and work requirements using the CMMS to ensure equipment histories and costs are up to date and to enable follow up work to be identified and planned. Responsibilities and Accountabilities Together with the Shift Engineering Manager, leading a team of multi-disciplined engineers (and contractors when necessary) to ensure designated tasks are completed efficiently and effectively to the highest standard Considering all implications when carrying out designated tasks and avoid unnecessary costs where possible by minimising purchases and through best utilisation of time and resources Having a 'right first time' work ethic and using root cause analysis to determine the underlying reasons behind problems and failures and act on the findings Being observant at all times when in the plant and investigating any deficiencies observed or reported to you; raising work orders for those that cannot be actioned immediately and feeding back on those that can Instil a Continuous Improvement mentality - providing and implementing ideas to improve manufacturing and mechanical efficiency and equipment reliability Working in liaison with other departments as required and providing support and assistance where possible Entering accurate, detailed feedback on all completed tasks into the CMMS on a daily basis Working closely with the Maintenance Planner to ensure the smooth execution of both day-to-day maintenance tasks and shutdown work Ensuring the upkeep and reliability of all plant and equipment in your designated area by feeding back requirements to the Planner/Supervisors Leadership Principles. What We're Looking For You'll be experienced in working within an Engineering team, ideally within a food manufacturing operation, with a working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and health, safety, and food safety and a background and experience of mechanical and electrical engineering. Experience • Craft Apprenticeship in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (essential) • NVQ Electrical/Mechanical Level 3 or equivalent (essential) • Demonstrable experience working in a maintenance/engineering department (essential) Knowledge • Health & Safety / Food Safety Best Practice (desirable) • Quality Assurance Systems and Standards (desirable) Skills • Strong fault finding and diagnostic capabilities (essential) • Understanding of PLC and SCADA systems would be beneficial (desirable) • Demonstrable experience of building high performing teams, and has a collaborative, controlled and pro-active approach Shift Pattern. This role will be working a mix of day and night shift. You'll work 12-hour shifts and typically through 1 month be working 7 days and 7 nights, you'll have 2 long weekends off per month. Location. You'll be based at our Whittlesey plant in Peterborough. If you've spotted our three wind turbines, then you'll know where we are! With about 400 employees on site, we're one of our largest plants across the GB business. Our Whittlesey plant is where we make our famous French Fries as well as our chilled products, such as our Shake Shake Fries. The benefits of working for McCain.
