Our Insurance team at DWF provides expertise in Casualty, Disease, Criminal Defence, EL/PL & RTA and is currently seeking a Solicitor or Senior Paralegal to handle a varied caseload of litigated personal injury defender and disease claims, under the supervision of Lynne Macfarlane, Partner and Solicitor Advocate.
We are looking for a Solicitor or Senior Paralegal, with experience of dealing with personal injury and disease litigation, preferably as a defender. Knowledge and experience of disease litigation either acting for pursuers or defenders is preferred.
You will have experience in progressing litigation in the sheriff courts and ideally the Court of Session, but we will also consider candidates with experience of a mixed defender caseload comprising disease, motor, employers liability (EL) and public liability (PL) cases, raised at simple procedure, summary cause and sheriff court level. Skill required is to review evidence and quickly progress the case to the end point, either settlement or proof, in line with client service level agreements.
Responsibilities
As a Solicitor or Senior Paralegal in our Insurance team, you will engage in a wide range of activities, such as:
* Working with Partners and Senior Associate to manage a caseload of high value claims, comprising of a variety of defender disease and motor matters.
* Drafting pleadings, reports to clients, attending court hearings, working to court deadlines, liability investigations, gathering evidence, instructing experts and considering interesting medical causation issues.
* Prioritising work effectively and maximising efficiency in working practices, adhering to court deadlines and directions, as well as the client's service level agreements.
* Building working relationships internally and externally in order to develop business networks and create a solid understanding of the Firm’s direction and client needs.
What will help you succeed in this role?
Desirable Criteria:
* 1 - 2years PQE as a Solicitor or an experienced Senior Paralegal, preferably within Disease, Motor, or serious injury.
* Technically experienced and a real interest in Disease, RTA and catastrophic injury work.
* Experience in handling high value defender personal injury and disease files either in your own right, or assisting more senior team members.
* Familiar with working in a commercial environment.
