General Overview
Working directly to the Technical Supervisors, the post holder will ensure safe and continuous operation of electrical engineering services and building plant as part of a flexible maintenance team, delivering work to the highest standards. Main responsibilities include efficiently performing electrical maintenance of all relevant assets, planning preventive maintenance, responding to reactive work orders, fault diagnosis, sourcing parts and ensuring best practices at all times.
Responsibilities
* Work from planned PPM schedule or reactive work orders.
* Complete all tasks to completion, including fault diagnosis, parts sourcing, and testing.
* Undertake planned preventive maintenance inspections and commission tests following published procedures.
* Record maintenance activities and provide accurate reports.
* Perform fault finding on complex hospital infrastructure (low‑voltage power, distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, UPS, IPS, standby generators).
* Use appropriate tools and equipment within safety guidelines – including risk assessment, fire safety, infection control and hazardous substances controls.
* Carry out emergency repairs, including overtime.
* Support, supervise and develop other trades staff.
* Maintain safe working practices compliant with statutory regulations, CDM, Good Practice.
* Participate in shift roster as required (unsocial hours with shift allowance).
* Report accidents, defects, near misses and incidents following EQUANS procedure.
* Use building management systems (BMS) and CAFM systems for recording maintenance.
* Communicate with wards and departments about planned/reactive works and ensure timely completion.
* Provide feedback on PPM results related to building and fire safety.
* Adhere to contract KPI’s and deliver effective service.
Complexity & Compliance
* Work in accordance with Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) and other statutory requirements.
* Appointed Person in critical low‑voltage electrical systems (certified, re‑assessed every 3 years).
* Competent Person (Electrical) supporting policy and safe working procedures.
* Understand the relationship to other maintenance crafts.
Qualifications & Experience
* Recognised Electrical/Engineering Apprenticeship – HNC, ONC, City & Guilds, or equivalent.
* Knowledge of BS7671 (18th Edition).
* Ability to obtain Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) clearance.
