Salary: £39,269 per annum + Overtime + Subsistence + Van + Benefits.
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire with national travel to client sites.
Job Type: Full‑Time, Permanent.
Working Hours: 37 hours per week. Monday‑Thursday 8am‑4.30pm (half‑hour lunch break) and Friday 8am‑1pm.
Job Overview
As a Field Service Engineer you will carry out preventative maintenance, reactive service calls, installation, commissioning and service checks on specialist brick‑making equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. You will travel extensively throughout the UK and occasionally overseas, sometimes at short notice, so a flexible approach and full UK driving licence are essential. This role requires the use of engineering drawings, fault‑finding, maintenance, health and safety awareness, COSHH knowledge and continuous improvement skills to deliver high‑quality service work.
Duties
* Service and Maintenance: carry out service calls on a preventative and reactive basis on mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
* Installation and Commissioning: travel across the UK and occasionally overseas to install, commission and maintain customer equipment
* Equipment Checks: conduct periodic service checks to ensure safe and effective operation
* Safe Working Practices: work safely from cherry‑pickers, scaffolding and other platforms in compliance with Working at Height Regulations
* Assembly Standards: ensure assembly work follows approved methods and required quality standards
* COSHH Compliance: ensure the safe use and disposal of hazardous materials in line with COSHH regulations
* Health and Safety: observe and comply with health, safety and security requirements at all times
* Quality Procedures: take responsibility for the quality of work and ensure relevant procedures are followed
* Continuous Improvement: recommend improvements to assembly methods, techniques and working practices
* Factory Support: assist in assembling machinery in the factory when not working offsite
Candidate Requirements - Essential
* Mechanical Engineering Qualification: apprentice‑trained Mechanical Engineer
* Engineering Drawings: ability to read and understand engineering drawings
* Communication Skills: excellent communication with colleagues and customers
* Deadline Focused: ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining high standards
* Innovation: ability to initiate new ideas and improvements when needed
* Driving Licence: full UK driving licence
* Flexible Approach: willing to travel at short notice and undertake weekend work when required
* Heavy Engineering Experience: experience in a heavy engineering environment
* Problem Solving: self‑motivated and enthusiastic, capable of solving problems as they arise
* Team Working: able to work independently and as part of a small team in an inclusive and respectful environment
Candidate Requirements - Desirable
* Field Service: previous experience in a field service position
* Machine Build: experience working within a machine build environment
* Plant Maintenance: experience in a plant maintenance background
