We need experience coding in Python and relevant ML packages such as HuggingFace, TensorFlow, and PyTorch. We require experience delivering ML solutions to stakeholders. We need a strong understanding of AI/ML algorithms for different data types and tasks, including Generative AI, NLP, and computer vision. We require the ability to carry out research and development beyond existing literature with support and technical direction from senior colleagues. We need experience training and developing AI models, including Large Language Models. We require the ability to produce high-quality scientific or academic-style writing for internal and external publication. We need strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with a high level of autonomy. We require a proactive, self-starting approach to finding solutions. Desirable: a PhD or Masters degree with academic research experience. Desirable: experience using robust ML pipelines, version control, and environment management tools such as venvs or Docker. Desirable: working knowledge of Linux systems and basic command-line functionality such as AWS CLI, Docker CLI, ssh, ls, and cd. Responsibilities: We develop novel data science solutions and contribute significantly to machine learning projects as part of a team, with guidance from senior colleagues. We bring experience in developing and delivering data-centric solutions. We undertake research and applied AI/ML tasks on both customer and internal research projects. We work with autonomy on assigned tasks within project groups. We generate ideas for new research directions. We deliver AI/ML and data science solutions to a broad range of defence-related problems. We work with senior group members, customers, and internal stakeholders to determine the right technical approach and complete the technical development required for delivery. We communicate ideas clearly to senior technical leaders and adapt our communication for audiences with different levels of technical expertise. We present and demonstrate our work internally and to senior stakeholders. We support projects from initial idea scoping through to final project delivery across customer and internal domains.
