LGT is a centre for the education and training of medical students enrolled with King’s College London’s GKT School of Medical Education. We are a training centre for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. The successful candidate will be responsible in supporting the existing LGT LAN/WAN and WiFi network delivering 2nd/3rdline technical support, installation and maintenance of network and WiFi systems. Other responsibilities including managing NHS Intune MDM, Community network, BT Circuits and managing IT comms rooms.
The jobholder will also be expected to support users of other systems such as VMWare, SAN and Servers that are provided by the IT department and knowledge of those systems is also desirable.
The jobholder will have at least three years’ experience of working in IT, with strong IT technical skills and the ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload. Experience of working in a clinical environment would be an advantage but is not essential. The jobholder will also have excellent customer service skills and thrive on working as part of a team. Excellent administrative, numerical and organisational skills are essential.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
Main duties of the job
1. Support the Senior Network Engineer in maintaining the Trust’s data and voice networks, wireless infrastructure, virtual servers and supporting platforms, Internet and HSCN connectivity, data circuits, firewalls, remote access technologies, and other associated systems and infrastructure.
2. Maintain a working knowledge of TCP/IP and network addressing, particularly within an NHS environment.
3. Troubleshoot network and server-related issues as directed by Network and Security Manager or Senior Network Engineer.
4. Act as the primary resource for comms room (closet) management, including patching, standard switch port VLAN configuration, fault investigations, and coordinating third-party attendance.
5. Liaise with the IT Service Desk regarding end-user requests, providing regular updates, closing tickets, and ensuring all log details are recorded accurately.
6. Ensure compliance with the Trust’s Information Security and Cyber Security policies, reporting any suspected breaches or risks to the Cyber IS Security Manager.
7. Provide advice to end users, in conjunction with the Senior Network Engineer, regarding the Trust’s Code of Connection.
8. Maintain a full and accurate inventory of all hardware and software, detailing devices, locations, serial numbers, configurations, and ensuring all changes are documented.
9. Assist in the production, review, and updating of departmental procedure manuals, ensuring adherence to agreed processes.
