Overview
Join Our Team as a Modern Apprentice in Professional Cookery at NHS Lanarkshire. Location: University Hospital Wishaw. Duration: Fixed term post for 12 months. This is a trainee role with pay determined as a percentage of pay for qualified staff (Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change). In year 1 you will be paid 70% of the salary for qualified staff.
Eligibility: Applicants should be aged 16 to 24 years old on 1 October 2025 (or up to 29 years for applicants who have a disability or those with care experience). You must demonstrate proficiency at SCQF Level 5 / National 5 Level.

What We Offer

* Qualification: Work towards achieving a SCQF Level 5 qualification in Professional Cookery with City of Glasgow College, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.

* Skills: Strong communication, customer service, ability to follow instructions, time management, and the ability to understand and follow procedures.
* Interest: A particular interest in catering and chef roles, with a positive attitude toward work and professional development.
* Qualifications: Demonstrate ability to work at National 5 / SCQF Level 5.
Duties As a Chef May Include
* Preparation of daily menu items for patients, staff and visitors.
* Production, presentation and service of function menus as required.
* Safe and correct use of all equipment used in daily food production.
* Maintain department hygiene standards in all food prep areas.
* Compliance with food hygiene regulations & HACCP policy; daily food samples may be taken.
You will receive training to become competent in all tasks.
No Prior Experience Necessary
No prior experience is required, but some understanding of a kitchen or hospitality environment is an advantage.
