Tasks

We are seeking an experienced Truck Prototype & Test Workshop Lead who can provide drive and leadership. As the Truck Prototype & Test Workshop Lead, you will:

* Be the interface between engineering teams and the production team, leading issue resolution on physical truck assets from point of build to customer handover.
* Work with other teams to ensure trucks have been built correctly and are fit-for-purpose for testing or shipping to customer.
* Liaise between engineering teams and the production team to drive resolution of truck issues.
* Be willing to support others and also capable of working on your own to provide solutions to a variety of truck issues.
* Coordinate and drive the execution of any reworks on trucks, working to project timelines with appropriate quality and costs.
* Execute the physical reworks yourself (fabrication/ welding/ minor electrical works) or where job is not possible to do in-house, work to outsource this.
* Own the budget for the prototype workshop, also ensuring consumables stock is maintained appropriately.
* Own the prototype workshop assets, look after the space itself as well as the tools and equipment and suggest changes / improvement / replacement when appropriate.
* Play an active role in advocating Health & Safety in the workshop and OX as a whole. Knowledge and practical understanding of H&S, COSHH and environmental procedures.
* Own all risks assessments and working policies for the prototype workshop.
* Support physical truck testing, including assisting as a secondary driver, helping with data logging and being an extra pair of hands during test days. Note - these are primarily at UTAC, Millbrook.
* Provide feedback and advice on truck design when you find areas that can be improved.
* At times you may need to work with suppliers to get parts fabricated or reworked, including managing part specifications, finances, purchase orders and part delivery/collection.
* Undertake any other work as directed by your Team Lead in connection with your job as may be requested from time to time.


Requirements

What you bring

* Proven supervisory/leadership experience in Automotive, Manufacturing, Engineering or Workshop environments.
* A strong understanding of part fabrication techniques and how automotive systems work so that you can determine the most appropriate way to fix a problem.
* Practical experience in fabrication and automotive repairs, including welding and minor electrical works.
* Ability to self-inspect and control quality of work.
* Ability to interpret CAD data and drawings.
* High voltage system safety awareness. HV training preferred but not essential.
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills – both customer-facing and internal.
* Resilience, organisation and ability to manage pressure in a demanding environment.
* Ability to think critically, solve problems and drive continuous improvement.
* Due to the nature of the role, you must have a full UK Driving license with access to your own vehicle. C1 category license preferred but not essential.
