Job Purpose
We are seeking a passionate and skilled English teacher to deliver engaging lessons to students aged 11–18, including those with Education Health Care Plans and additional needs such as social communication and learning challenges. The role involves teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4, with potential involvement in Key Stage 2. Students work towards a range of qualifications from Entry Level to GCSE. The successful candidate will inspire learners and support their academic and personal development, contributing positively to the wider community.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver a broad, balanced, and differentiated English curriculum tailored to individual student needs.
* Teach consistently high-quality lessons using a range of Quality First Teaching strategies.
* Support the development and implementation of a reading programme that fosters a love of reading, especially for those unfamiliar with reading for pleasure.
* Demonstrate a strong commitment to working with students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
* Create learning experiences that help students achieve their full potential.
* Promote confidence, self-esteem, and well-being to support holistic development.
* Contribute to raising literacy standards across the school.
* Manage student behaviour effectively, in line with school policies and values.
* Uphold safeguarding practices in accordance with statutory guidance and school policy.
* Lead and evaluate assessment and feedback practices in line with departmental and whole-school policies.
* Monitor and track student progress, using data to inform teaching.
* Undertake pastoral responsibilities, including form tutor duties and individual student support.
* Coordinate information for Annual Reviews.
* Organise and lead extracurricular and enrichment activities related to English.
* Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding student progress.
* Collaborate with internal and external professionals to support student development.
* Manage time effectively and engage in ongoing professional development.
* Stay up to date with developments in SEND and teaching methodologies.
* Contribute to the school community, promoting its mission, values, and ethos.
* Support and uphold school policies and professional standards.
* Participate in supervision duties as part of a rota.
* Carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by senior leadership.
